How it works

A septic tank is a separation system, where the clarified effluent is discharged:

1.     Raw sewage enters the first stage of the tank where solids settle by gravity to the bottom of the tank

2.     Sludge levels reduce within this stage with the aid of naturally occurring anaerobic digestion

3.     The flow passes upwards through further baffle arrangements providing further clarification

4.     The settled effluent is displaced from the tank by the incoming sewage flow

5.     The partially treated effluent then flows into the percolation area or other suitable filter bed system. 

6.     Sludges built up in the base of the septic tank are emptied annually to ensure continued efficient running

Here are some images that show the scale, flexibility and the quality of the new flat, flexible Graf Platin rainwater harvesting tank. As you can see this rainwater harvesting tank could not be much less complicated.

The Platin flat rainwater tank was specially developed for rainwater harvesting. It is available in sizes of between 1500 and 5000 litres. Platin features a minimum installation depth which translates into a shorter installation time and lower installation costs.

Dig a shallow hole with a flat base to suit the tank size. Use a ground sheet for the spoil- you'll need some of it to refill.	Carry the Platin to the hole - its not that heavy - may need a couple of mates for the largest tank size.	Lower the tank into  position - connect up to the household rainwater downpipes and cut a soak-away for the overflow - preferably connected to the drainage system.	Fit the filter, pump and fill in the hole then secure the cover carefully so only an adult can remove it...	..and you are watering the garden in no time! The pump with our garden kit shown far below is pressure sensitive and will pump rainwater when you turn on the tap.

The appropriate self-cleaning filter technology is supplied to match the House and Garden packages. It is characterised by its low maintenance requirements and high water yield. In addition, it can be removed without any tools if the tank needs to be inspected.

The attractive tank cover of the Platin flat rainwater tank is also based on the successful Carat module system. It can be telescoped and tilted in a continuously variable manner. Of the entire system, only the discreetly designed tank cover is visible. It also features a child-proof lock and an internal water connection box.
